Amy Carlson

The family was born in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Amy Carlson spent most of her early life in the Chicago area. Amy was a resident of Glen Ellyn the city of Illinois, up until she was in junior college. Her family also lived in Middle East, where her parents, Bob (and Barb) taught at American School. Amy has two sisters, Betsy and Lori, and a brother Joe. Amy has traveled all over Europe with her family and independently. Because her parents were teachers, they were able to enjoy every summer with each other, traveling and camping all over the United States. They've stayed in every state with the exception of Alaska. Amy was in Rwanda to assist in efforts to help after the 1994 war. From the beginning, Amy showed artistic talent performing in school productions, and winning contests for writing. In high school she was an accomplished athlete who was a part of the first ever 3200 meter relay in the Illinois girls track. After a college injury, she was back in the theater with many roles on stage beginning with Lanford Wilson's "Fifth of July" and directing Wallace Shawn's "Aunt Dan and Lemon". Amy went to Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois where she earned her with a cum laude, a B.A. East Asian history with a specialization in Theater. After graduation, she moved to Chicago where she studied Improv at The Improv Olympics and Acting at The Actor's Center. After graduation, she was offered a contract job on the soap opera Another World (1964). The actress has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in the category of "Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama Series". Her most memorable roles included those of strong women as Alex Taylor (1999), Maggie Pistone (2000), Katie Owen (2003), and Linda Reagan (2003). Carlson lives in New York City, with Syd Butler, her husband and bassist for Les Savy Fav. She also runs Frenchkiss Records, an independent music label, and works as a co-owner. Amy continues to write as well as search for diverse and distinctive roles in the film industry.
